Science FUNdamentals is a registered charity and student group at the University of Alberta that aims to enhance elementary science education using interactive demonstrations. We have a wide range of activities focusing on subjects from buoyancy and surface tension to genetics and human physiology.
We also hold an annual science exhibition, known as Science FUNday, at the University of Alberta in February. FUNday offers over 80 exciting demonstrations, tours to laboratories and museums on campus, and invited STEM speakers from a variety of scientific disciplines.
Meet Our Execs
I am in my fourth year of Physiology at the University of Alberta. This year will also be my fourth year with Science FUNdamentals and I am so excited to see what the year will bring! When I am not studying, you’ll find me outside on the trails running, showering cute dogs with love or volunteering on campus!
I graduated from Honours Physiology and I am now in my first year of After-Degree Nursing! I have been with SciFUN since the beginning of my undergrad and I am excited to see where the organization will go next. You can find me endlessly meal-prepping in the kitchen, playing with my bunny, writing music, and of course, studying!
I'm in my fourth year of BioSci/Psych, and also my fourth year with SciFun! My procrastination habits include binging netflix shows, napping, or obsessing about all things basketball!
I'm in my third year of Neuroscience and second year of volunteering with Science FUNdamentals. I'm excited to be a part of the exec team this year and to meet all of the new volunteers! Around campus, you'll see me studying, listening to music, or cycling.
I am currently in my fourth and final year of my BSc Specialization in Psychology degree. This is my second year with Science Fundamentals, and I am looking forward to working alongside everyone to facilitate a passion for science within the youth of today! When I am not on campus studying or feeding my caffeine addiction, you can find me playing sports or volunteering.
I am a fourth year student at the University of Alberta. Also going into my fourth year with SciFUN, I am excited to share my passion for science with you all! When I am not studying, hibernating, or planning FUNday, you can find me on Whyte Avenue with my pup named Beer! Ask me anything about her or FUNday and I may never stop talking.
I’m in my second year of Physiology at the U of A and this is also my second year as a member of SciFUN. I’m looking forward to creating new demos for the group and working with this exec team! When I’m not studying at the library (or procrastinating), I like to read fiction and try out new restaurants in the city. I also love travelling!
Hello! My name is Ryan Scheltus and I am heading into my fifth and final year of my BEd Secondary / BSc Bio Major combined program. This is my second year as one of the Co-Activities Directors. I believe in everything Science FUNdamentals stands for and am looking forward to spreading the love of science. You may not see me around campus this year as both semesters I am doing my practicum! Feel free to stop me and say hi if you spot me!
Hi, I'm Chantal and I'll be going into my fourth year with SciFUN, and I'm excited to be entering my final year of Neuroscience. I'm passionate about educating youth in our community and science literacy, so SciFUN was a natural fit for me. The impact that Science FUNday has and the network of our volunteers are especially amazing. When I'm not stressing, I love roaming cute cafes and planning travel to East Asia!
I am a fourth year BSc student and this is my third year volunteering for Science Fundamentals. I love working with children and seeing their faces light up when they learn something new. To curb the stress of university, I like to organize things in my bullet journal. I'm anticipating for the new challenges the upcoming year will bring!
